Sound+Consciousness by Store Front Lab,
An installation by Joti Dee and Aver Collective, present Mari Sierra to probe questions such as: What is the interplay of sound in our everyday awareness and how does the rhythm of a city impact our essence?
In this intimate space we learned to listen within, travel far and share our views on our interconnected life. How do city sounds impact our being? How can we listen with attention to the feeling body? Can we simultaneously engage our mind and our body, by tracking where our imagination gets transported faraway, while we remain aware of our physicality and presence? // some of the questions that were posed during our sessions at@storefrontlab. The soundscapes are sound collages created during my travels, pieces of sound memories that resonated deeply. Seeing the reactions that people had to them was fascinating and also quite vulnerable.
My sound journaling has been a very intimate practice, and today is the first day that I share them publicly. It felt as if I was letting people inside my consciousness, and through these sound memories, we traveled in time and space and cultures, as well as through my own mental / emotional states. And for a moment, we all felt that our imaginary boundaries were lost and that our joint presence elevated our beings.
