Life is a series of collisions with the future;
it is not the sum of what we have been,
but what we yearn to be.
__ Jose Ortega y Gasset
I recently met a man that told me he’s been writing a story about me (without actually ever encountered me). In his book, he has constructed a fictitious character of the life of a woman who lives in San Francisco, named Mari. She’s one of those people who have decided to believe that everything she can imagine becomes real. And she takes her dreams really seriously.
How can this be? Can his words have a premonition effect in my life? Or will my existence shift the course of the story he is writing? Meeting each other was equally powerful to both of us, suddenly, my ‘life’ and his ‘creation’ coexisted in the same point in time and space. His future plans were my past, my present days were a version of his future.
And this is what has been happening to me for the past 8 months when I decided to adventure into the unknown and follow the heart path. Time and space have become an illusory measure. As I travel the world and follow my intuition, I seem to be attracting – with a magnetic force above my comprehension – very special characters that are forging my destiny in incredible ways.
Every person I meet during my travels is like a magician that opens the perfect road in front of me, enlightening me with their words, caring for my path with immense unconditional love. I open myself to receive the essential message from them, asking deep questions about why they do what they do, what brought them here, what have they learned about themselves so far. And I also open up with them. I share them pieces of my healing process. About my life, my family, my breakup, about the spiritual and existential questions I have, about how I’m trying to understand the nature of reality, why are we in this body, how does consciousness emerge?... I share with them my creative process and tell them about the workshops I create and the lessons I’m learning from mixing disciplines such as psychology, art, social sciences, design, alchemy and mystical practices. I talk about my students’ growth and what I discover next to my co-creators.
In different cities and with diverse crowds, I often hear similar questions: how is the digital world morphing our being?, how do we express love in a multicultural world?, what has replaced religion and how do we make meaning in such a multi-layered system of relationships and intentions? what are passports for, if we no longer feel a strong bond with our national obligation? How are we helping shift our economy towards a more collaborative and regenerative system?
We all have perhaps more questions than answers to all of this, but it’s in the conversation, in the cognitive dissonance that happens when we encounter different points of view, that we grow and evolve a deeper understanding of how interconnected all is.
I met the man that shared the story about a fictitious me and my life in San Francisco, after doing a cacao ceremony and a 5rhythms dance class in Berlin. His presence captivated me in the dance floor, his hips moving freely and gracefully, strong shoulders, flowy hands. His eyes are like two bright blue oceans that transported me to a state of peace and awe. He is a cancer survival. He has decided to heal his cancer with only alternative methods. Following strict Gerson diet and other holistic practices. His vibrational energy is higher than many other zombie men just existing in inertia of their usual jobs, with their usual suits. I loved listening to his story and reading his blog posts about how he is dealing with his sickness, understanding it as the most transformative event of his lifetime.
We are empowered to create our own reality, no matter what the circumstances are. In this journey of exploring the unknown, it has become clear to me that I am indeed a multi-dimensional human trying to bridge several disciplines and that there will not be a clear standard path to follow.
I care about transforming the world and doing things differently. I care about understanding life and death. About the art of living and healing. My avenue is the connection of mind, body and spirit, an integral approach to living well. I care about collaboration and multi-cultural – multi- disciplinary understanding.
Just in the past few days, a new project is calling me to work in the realms of alternative medicine for cancer patients. I will be sharing more insights on how it all unfolds. The future is already here, and I might as well just embrace with the highest integrity.
